Fitness Manager – FT – Exempt

60,000 – 65,000

 

SUMMARY:  Managing four fitness centers for 55+ homeowner’s association.  Must have experience working with mature adults and preferred fitness background.  Work environment is both in the office and in the fitness centers.  Preferred experience with fitness and community centers.

 

Description of Duties:

  • Manage daily operations of fitness centers and manages approximately 40 part time fitness monitors.
  • Assists with hiring, training and payroll.
  • Train and certify SCSCAI employees in First Aid, CPR and AED use.
  • Perform equipment and building checks for all fitness centers and report safety hazards and maintenance issues to the Director of Fitness
  • Liaison to maintenance department for projects and repairs. Manages work order process and coordinate with necessary service
  • Liaison to preventative maintenance vendor for strength and cardio equipment.
  • Assists with special event coordination, health promotion planning and extensive administrative duties.
  • Maintain Fitness monitor schedules, group exercise schedule, and group exercise room schedule.
  • Order operating supplies and maintain equipment and operational inventory.
  • Assist with teaching group fitness classes and provide fitness center equipment orientation.
  • Act as a liaison to residents for the Director of Health & Fitness as needed.
  • Additional duties relevant to this position as assigned by the Director of Health & Fitness.

Essential knowledge, skills and abilities required by the position:

  • Strong administration skills.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of Health and Fitness exercise concepts, principles, and application to the senior population.
  • Working knowledge of the Association’s policies and procedures relating to the Fitness centers.
  • Working knowledge of strength and cardio equipment.
  • Able to apply safe work practices.
  • Effective communicator / trainer.
  • Efficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Organization and prioritizing skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Valid driver license and transportation (with minimum state required auto insurance on personal vehicle)-25% travel within the community with unreimbursed use of own vehicle.
  • Nationally accredited certification as a Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor preferred.  Senior fitness experience preferred.
  • Two years of management experience preferred.   
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
  • Two years of work experience relevant to the position, and two years of higher education with focus in Kinesiology or Recreation Management
  • Able to communicate and follow oral and written instructions

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical demands:  Walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling or squatting for prolonged periods and lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion.  Sufficient strength and stamina to lead and participate in exercise classes, special events and to ensure a productive environment typical of a fitness center and office setting.

Work Environment:  Risks and discomforts typical of a fitness center environment, including direct use of fitness equipment.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, wet conditions and light noise exposure.  Requires performing job functions complying with all SCSCAI policies and applying all safety policies and procedures.
