Position Title: Draftsperson I or II; or Designer I
Department/Location: Transmission, Engineering and Construction; Bismarck, ND

Position Purpose: Draftsperson I - This position is responsible to provide introductory drafting services for the applicable discipline of design engineering needed to meet the future power generation, gas production, fuel supply, and power transmission needs of Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC).
Draftsperson II - This position provides intermediate-level drafting services for the applicable discipline of design engineering needed to meet the future power generation, gas production, fuel supply, and power transmission needs of Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC).
Designer I - This position is responsible to provide basic design services for applicable engineering disciplines needed to meet the future power generation, fuel supply, and power transmission needs of Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC). The incumbent will be assigned to work in the Civil Engineering section. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.
Qualifications: Draftsperson I - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have intermediate mathematical skills; a working knowledge of layouts and drafting in the applicable discipline; familiarity with drafting codes, regulations, and standards; and expertise in applying drafting techniques. This is acquired through completion of a two-year degree in Drafting and Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Drafting, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Engineering program, or a related field; or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and two years of related design/drafting experience. Proficiency in the use of personal computers; Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; and drafting/design software, including Autodesk software, is required. The incumbent will be expected to become proficient in a number of other applications routinely used by BEPC and the Engineering & Construction division, such as PLS-CADD and Esri GIS applications. This position will require occasional travel either by car or Cooperative/commercial plane. Travel is determined based on the assigned project.
Draftsperson II - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have intermediate mathematical skills; a working knowledge of layouts and drafting in the applicable discipline; familiarity with drafting codes, regulations, and standards; and expertise in applying drafting techniques. This is acquired through completion of a two-year degree in Drafting and Design Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Drafting, an Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited Engineering program, or a related field and two years of related design/drafting experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and four years of related design/drafting experience. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and drafting/design software, including Autodesk software, is required. The incumbent will be expected to become proficient in a number of other applications routinely used by BEPC and the Engineering & Construction division, such as PLS-CADD and Esri GIS applications.
Designer I - To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have general knowledge and understanding of engineering mathematics and drafting; and a basic understanding of design, fabrication, and construction processes in the applicable engineering discipline. This is acquired through the completion of a two-year degree in Drafting & Design Technology, Computer Aided Drafting, Engineering Technician, or related construction industry program and four years of related drafting experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and six years of related drafting experience. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, and AutoDESK software is required. The incumbent will be expected to become proficient in a number of other applications routinely used by BEPC and the Engineering & Construction division, such as PLS-CADD and Esri GIS applications. The ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills are also required. Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands: This position requires frequent sitting; and occasional standing/walking, bending/reaching, climbing, kneeling, crawling, use of keyboard/computer, pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. This position also requires finger dexterity, hand coordination, good hearing, and color vision. It also requires the ability to analyze data/reports and conduct research; implement recommendations; develop plans, procedures, and goals; and present information to others. The incumbent may be required to work under pressure due to conflicting priorities and deadlines. This position occasionally works in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. Travel may be required, either by operating a motor vehicle or traveling in Cooperative/commercial plane.
